The table layout

When you open an Andar Bahar table — live dealer or digital — you will see three main areas on screen.

The Joker spot. This is the centre of the table. One card goes here at the start of every round. Some tables call it the Game Card instead of the Joker. Same thing, different label.

The Andar zone. This is one side of the table, usually the left. “Andar” means “inside” in Hindi.

The Bahar zone. The other side, usually the right. “Bahar” means “outside.”

Here is exactly what happens from the moment a round begins to the moment it ends.

Step 1 — The Joker card is drawn

The dealer takes a standard 52-card deck (no jokers from the deck — the “Joker” in Andar Bahar is just the name for the first card drawn). The deck is shuffled, and the dealer draws one card and places it face up in the Joker spot.

Let’s say the Joker is a 7 of hearts. Now the game is looking for another 7 — any suit, just the same value.

Step 2 — You place your bet

Before any more cards are dealt, you choose: Andar or Bahar. That is your only required decision for the entire round.

Once all bets are placed, the dealer closes the betting window. No more changes after this.

Step 3 — The dealing begins

The dealer starts dealing cards face up, one at a time, alternating between Andar and Bahar. The pattern goes like this:

• First card → Andar
• Second card → Bahar
• Third card → Andar
• Fourth card → Bahar
• And so on…

One important detail: if the Joker card is a black suit (spades or clubs), the first dealt card goes to Andar. If the Joker is a red suit (hearts or diamonds), the first card goes to Bahar. This is the standard rule at most tables, though a few providers handle it differently.

Why does this matter? Because the side that receives the first card has a slightly higher chance of getting the match — simply because it sees one extra card over the course of the round.

Step 4 — The match ends the round

Dealing continues until a card with the same value as the Joker appears. The moment it does, the round is over.

If the matching card lands on the Andar side and you bet Andar — you win. If it lands on Bahar and you bet Bahar — you win. Everybody else loses their bet.

There is no draw. There is no second chance. One match, one result, done.

Step 5 — Payouts

This is the one piece of Andar Bahar “theory” that is actually worth knowing.

The side that receives the first dealt card will always see one more card than the other side during the round. Think about it: Andar gets card 1, Bahar gets card 2, Andar gets card 3, Bahar gets card 4… If the match happens on an odd-numbered card, Andar wins. If it happens on an even-numbered card, Bahar wins.

Because Andar gets that extra card, it wins slightly more often — roughly 51.5% of the time over thousands of rounds. Casinos account for this by paying slightly less on the first-card side.

This does not mean you should always bet Andar. In any given round, the odds are close to 50/50. The first-card advantage only shows up over a very large number of rounds.
